From old to new, thanks to EVERGREEN, STEDYCON, and DFG funding

Do you have an outdated (confocal) microscope in your lab? Would you like to bring it cost-effectively up to scratch? No problem, abberior’s EVERGREEN sustainability initiative makes it happen. Instead of spending money on an entirely new system, you can transform any widefield stand into a state-of-the-art confocal and STED microscope with our STEDYCON – simply unscrew, screw on, done! So everyone can save money and resources! In Germany, it’s even better: the DFG now funds the sustainable renewal of your existing large-scale equipment in a pilot program.

EVERGREEN + STEDYCON + DFG = Zoooooommm …

It has never been easier to bring an old microscope up to speed with the latest technology. All you need is a microscope stand with a free camera port – and our STEDYCON. Then it hardly takes longer than a Formula 1 pit stop, and you can move into high gear with your completely refurbished high-performance microscope!

Ready for the future

Since its lasers are aligned by design, the STEDYCON is maintenance-free – and extremely robust. Its software is so user-friendly that you can acquire excellent superresolved images on your own after just a few minutes of training. This means you are ideally equipped for microscopy projects for years to come.

Funded by the DFG

Don’t spend money on the purchase of new equipment. In Germany, the DFG funds the sustainable renewal of existing large-scale equipment in the interest of sustainability in a pilot program.

FAQ

The STEDYCON fits on almost any microscope stand with a free camera port. A good objective lens is also important. All lasers, scanners, and detectors are already installed in the STEDYCON box.

We have successfully installed and tested the STEDYCON on the following stands:

  • Olympus IX83/73, IX81/71, BX63/53
  • Nikon TiE2, TiE, TE-2000, Ni-E
  • Zeiss AxioObserver, AxioImager, Axiovert 200M
  • Leica DMi8, DMI6000, DM IRB, DM2500

Simply ask us whether your old microscope can also be upgraded.

The format and conditions of the application correspond to those of the DFG large-scale equipment program.

The DFG provides information about the pilot measure here >. Your contact at the DFG is Dr. Michael Royeck, michael.royeck@dfg.de, +49 228 8852976.

Yes, the DFG pilot projectsupports the renewal of any existing large-scale equipment, regardless of the funds with which it was originally purchased.

Applications for large-scale equipment at German universities and universities for applied sciences are eligible for funding. Non-university institutions (Max Planck Society, Leibniz Association, Helmholtz Association, Fraunhofer Society) are excluded from funding unless they submit a joint application with a university or university of applied sciences.

For an original acquisition value of €200,000 or more, renewal applications can be submitted from €100,000; universities of applied sciences can submit renewal applications from €50,000 for original acquisition values of €100,000 to €200,000.

Proposals can be submitted to the DFG from July 1 to December 31, 2025.
